Piku (2015) Day Wise Box Office Collection

Second Weekend is the best second weekend of 2015 ahead of Gabbar is Back. Piku is led completely by multiplexes  and is now 3rd highest grossing movie of 2015 behind Baby and Gabbar is back

Worldwide: 47.15 Crores gross first weekend

First Weekend is 4th Highest of 2015 behind Gabbar is Back,  Baby and Roy.

First weekend is much higher than Shoojit Sircar's last two movies Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe.

First Weekend is also much bigger than Deepika's last critically acclaimed Finding fanny

Piku is also 2015's biggest opener in overseas markets.

Piku is doing amazingly  well in all the top metros of india Mumbai city, Pune, Delhi city, Gurgaon, Kolkata and Bangalore.

However even multiplexes outside of top metros are also doing amazing business especially on Sunday

Movies with this kind of trends are rarely seen and was last seen in word of mouth successes Queen and Dum laga Ke haisha.

However Piku is a high budget movie unlike Queen and Dum Laga ke haisha  so it needs to sustain itself over a long period.

Piku also faces a tough competition for Ranbir Kapoor's mega budget Bombay velvet from next week.

Piku Screens
Piku was released in 1310 screens Pan India which was slightly higher than Kuch Kuch Locha Hain. Most of the screens of Piku are in multiplexes and Piku has got only a limited release in single screens.

Piku Budget :
Unlike Shoojit Sircar's last Vicky donor which was a low budget Piku  surprisingly is a big budget movie. The production cost including star salaries is a very high Rs 38 Crores. Prints and advertising cost is around Rs 12 Crores. Total Budget: Rs 50 Crores. This is more than double of what a Queen cost

Piku Hit or Flop Economics:
Satellite Rights of Piku have been sold for Rs 18 Crores while Music and Overseas rights have brought another 5 Crores. To be profitable Piku should generate a distributor share of Rs 27 Crores or a net business of approx Rs 55 Crores. This looks very difficult for Piku since it has only a week window before Bombay Velvet arrives which will take over most of its screens in next week
