Sharmaji Namkeen is an Indian Hindi language Comedy-Drama film. Directed by Hitesh Bhatia and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Honey Trehan & Abhishek Chaubey under the banner of Excel Entertainment Production, Macguffin Pictures, And Amazon Original Movie. The film features Rishi Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Juhi Chawla, Satish Kaushik, Suhail Nayyar, Taaruk Raina, Isha Talwar, Sheeba Chadha and Ayesha Raza Mishra in lead role. Sharmaji Namkeen was not released theatrically and It was released through the streaming platform on Amazon Prime Video on 31 March, 2022 [India].

The film Features Rishi Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Suhail Nayyar and Isha Talwar in pivotal roles, the film marks Rishi Kapoor's posthumous appearance following his death on 30 April, 2020. Paresh Rawal completed the role of Kapoor after his demise. They were last seen together in the 2009 film Luck By Chance. The film marked Farhan's sister Zoya Akhtar's directorial debut and was produced by Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani. Sharmaji Namkeen is the story of a retired man. Brij Gopal Sharma (Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Rawal) works as an assistant manager at Madhuban Home Appliances in Delhi. His wife Suman passed away a few years ago and he resides in a middle-class neighbourhood with his elder son Sandeep Sharma aka Rinku (Suhail Nayyar) and younger son Vincy (Taaruk Raina). He’s forced to opt for voluntary retirement though he’s 58 years old. At first, he’s happy with his retired life. A few months later, he gets restless. He’s fond of cooking and one day, he tells his sons that he’d like to start a chaat stall. Rinku gets angry over this idea and hence, Sharmaji drops the plan. Meanwhile, his close friend, Chaddha (Satish Kaushik), asks Sharmaji one day to cook for guests at a friend’s place for a religious gathering. Sharmaji at first refuses but later, gives in. He goes to the place of Manju Gulati (Sheeba Chadha) and cooks delicious dishes. However, he realizes that Manju and her guests are not having any religious ceremony; instead, a kitty party is going on in full swing. An enraged Sharmaji runs away. He gets mad at Chaddha. His anger soon evaporates as Manju calls him and praises his food. He’s also invited to cook during their next kitty session. Sharmaji, hence, starts attending their kitty parties as an expert cook, without informing his sons. He also gets close to Veena Manchanda (Juhi Chawla), who has also lost her spouse, just like Sharmaji. What happens next forms the rest of the film.
Rishi had worked on the film along with Juhi Chawla and actor Gufi Paintal. Sharmaji Namkeen is directed by Hitesh Bhatia. Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment is backing the film. Sharmaji Namkeen was supposed to mark Juhi Chawla and Rishi Kapoor's re-union on the big screen after a long time. The two starred in films like Bol Radha Bol, Saajan Ka Ghar, Rishta Ho To Aisa, Ghar Ki Ijaazat, and Eena Meena Deeka to name a few. Rishi Kapoor died on 30 April, 2020. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and underwent treatment in New York for a year, before returning to India in September 2019. The film was premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 31 March, 2022.

"B. G. Sharma is a 58-year old widower, and a middle class man, living in West Delhi. He is one of millions of faceless people in a mundane routine called life.
