(10) The Bengal Files Story / Plot:

The Bengal Files is a historical-thriller film directed by Vivek Agnihotri, and is the third and final part of his "Files Trilogy" following "The Tashkent Files" and "The Kashmir Files." The story of "The Bengal Files" is a blend of a contemporary mystery and a historical narrative. The film's plot is structured around a dual timeline.
The film follows CBI officer Shiva Pandit, a Kashmiri Pandit haunted by the 1990s exodus of Kashmiri Hindus. He is sent to West Bengal to investigate the disappearance of a young journalist, Gita Mandal, in Murshidabad. Suspicion falls on a powerful local MLA, Sardar Hosseini. As Shiva investigates, he uncovers a web of corruption and communal politics. His search for the truth leads him to an elderly woman named Bharati Banerjee, whose fading memory holds the key to the past. Through flashbacks and the recollections of Bharati Banerjee, the film delves into the horrific events of the 1946 Direct Action Day and the subsequent Noakhali riots. It portrays the mass communal violence, bloodshed, and atrocities that took place in Bengal leading up to the partition of India. The film shows how these historical events, which the director claims were suppressed or ignored, have a direct link to the present-day political and social tensions in West Bengal.
The film's core premise is to link the communal violence of 1946 to the current political climate, suggesting that the "Partition never ended" in Bengal.
