Bholaa is the official remake of the Tamil film Kaithi, released in 2019 and stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu. The remake will be produced by SR Prakashbabu and Reliance Entertainment. The story has been revisited by Sandeep Kewlani and Aamil Keeyan Khan, who have written the dialogues too.

Kaithi released in 2019 which was an action thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The original film revolves around a prisoner, played by Karthi, who comes to the aid of the police when they are attacked by a gang of smugglers. In exchange, the police help him reunite with his daughter. The film was headlined by Karthi alongside Narain and Dheena. It is produced by S. R. Prakashbabu and S. R. Prabhu under the banner Dream Warrior Pictures and co-produced by Tiruppur Vivek under the banner Vivekananda Pictures.

Bholaa is a 2023 Indian action-thriller film directed by and starring Ajay Devgn. It is a remake of the 2019 Tamil film Kaithi. The story unfolds over the course of a single night.
The film begins with a massive drug bust led by IPS officer Diana Joseph (Tabu). She successfully seizes a huge consignment of cocaine worth crores of rupees from the notorious Sikka gang, led by the brothers Ashwathama "Ashu" (Deepak Dobriyal) and Nithari (Vineet Kumar). The drugs are hidden in the basement of a police station in Laalganj, and the arrested gang members are locked up there. To get the drugs and their men back, Ashu orchestrates a plan to take down the police force. During a farewell party for a senior officer, nearly 40 police officers are drugged and fall unconscious. Diana is the only one who avoids the poisoned drink. She must now transport the sedated officers to a hospital three hours away. In a desperate situation, Diana enlists the help of a recently released prisoner named Bholaa (Ajay Devgn), who is on his way to an orphanage to meet his daughter for the first time. Though initially reluctant, Bholaa agrees to drive the truck carrying the unconscious cops to the hospital. As Bholaa and Diana drive, they are relentlessly attacked by various gangs hired by Ashu, who has put a bounty on Diana and the police force. The journey becomes a series of high-octane action sequences as Bholaa single-handedly takes on the attackers. At the same time, Ashu's gang also lays siege to the Laalganj police station to retrieve the drugs and free Nithari. A newly transferred constable, Angad Yadav (Sanjay Mishra), is left to defend the station with the help of a few college students who are also at the station. During a brief moment of calm, Bholaa reveals his backstory to Diana. He was a ruthless gangster who gave up his life of crime after falling in love with a doctor. However, before their marriage, his wife was killed by a rival gang leader. She gave birth to their daughter, Jyoti, before dying, and Bholaa was separated from his daughter after being sentenced to a long prison term. Bholaa, Diana, and the others are eventually ambushed. Bholaa, a devotee of Lord Shiva, uses a trishul (trident) to take down the entire gang. He then races to the Laalganj police station to help Yadav and the students who are cornered by the gangsters. Bholaa, with his immense strength and fighting skills, helps the police and students escape and ultimately confronts and kills Ashu.
The film ends with Bholaa successfully saving the police officers and securing a future for his daughter, whom he is now finally able to meet. The film leaves the audience with questions about Bholaa's past and hints at a potential sequel to explore his story further.
